The impressive Arenal Volcano is the most active volcano of Central America. It was dormant for 7 thousand years. Then in 1968 exploded, devastating the landscape and burying the town called Arenal.
Ever since it's been a very active volcano with pyroclastic flows. On clear nights you can see incredible beautiful strings of red lava going down the sides.

This is a great video ... is it possible to send me an electronic copy of it? My daughter is doing a report on the Arenal Volcano and I'd like to include this on her power point (due 2/23/12).
Your help is appreciated!
I live just east of the volcano on the lower slope of Cerro Chato, and I can attest to the superb views of Arenal. Even when she is relatively quiet you can see the steam vents near the summit When she erupts the low frequency sound waves can be felt viscerally, as well as heard. The northwest face near the summit has been swelling for the last several months. It should provide quite a show when she enters another eruptive phase. Daily we have been feeling small almost imperceptable earthquakes which indicates a movement of magma underneath. How about a video of the crater lake on Cerro Chato?
Super! Great info and great presentation. Volcano looks hot!
