Tortuguero is an excellence destiny for the green turtles and baulas lovers, due near this town is located the National Park of the same name. Annually these turtles attend for their natural process of reproduction, being a really beautiful and natural phenomenon.

Tortuguero is a town surrounded by a system of canals and navigable lagoons, creating a beautiful scene around it. In this place live a great amount of marine species such as: green turtles, crocodiles and the famous manatee or marine cow. In addition, there are living an ample number of crustaceans and about 30 kinds of fish. All this makes Tortuguero as one of the richer regions of biodiversity in Costa Rica. In this region are working two institutions that guard the biodiversity of the zone. These companies are Caribbean Conservation Corporation (CCC) and Sea Turtle Survival League (STSL). They work specially by the Green and Baula Turtle survival due they are in extinction danger. To get into Tortuguero is necessary to take an aquatic transportation, like a boat, in order to rich the town or the places where the hotels of the zone are located. Another way should be getting in by air, due the airport near the town. About the quality and category of Tortuguero Hotels, there are several options, due this zone has undergone a high ecotouristic growth. Most of these lodging options include all meals in their rates or packages, this is because the area is special and the transportation is not a way to move in, because there are not cars. The best dates to go and to take the opportunity to enjoy the turtle life are: from March and May to appreciate the Baulas turtles, and form June to September the green turtles. As a peculiar data of Tortuguero town is that there are not cars for moving in, there are two ways, walking or by bike. About the commerce, you will find bars, restaurants and souvenir shops. Some destinies near Tortuguero are: Puerto Viejo, Talamanca (2 hours), La Fortuna (2.5 hours), San Jose (2 hours) and Sarapiqui (1 hour). Share:
