Tenorio Volcano National Park hides and protects a natural treasure, it is one of the best Maleku Indigenous best-kept secrets, so, let’s find it out.

We will begin our journey, departing from your hotel in La Fortuna, San Carlos. Along the way, we will pass the towns of Monterrey, Guatuso, and Katira. After an hour and a half, we will arrive at the Tenorio Volcano National Park, where we will start a 4 miles hike through the rainforest and visiting attractions such as the “Blue Lagoon”: it is stretch of Calm River that makes a beautiful natural lagoon, The Lookout point of the Tenorio Volcano. "Las Ollas": they are fumaroles filled with boiling mud pots. Also, we will visit the Rio Celeste Waterfall.

The hike would take a total of 4 hours among nature trails with some difficulty. In this exciting adventure, you will discover the reason for the sky-blue color of the river at the time we get to the goal, "Los Teñideros" or dyers; this is the place where the river gets its turquoise blue color.

Our day will end with a delicious traditional lunch before returning to your hotel in the Arenal Volcano base. You will be back at 4 p.m. approximately.

(read more)

I booked this tour last minute and I am so glad that I did. We got to our hotel at 2am and pick up was right on time at 730am- needless to say we did not get a lot of sleep that night. On our way to Rio Celeste- we asked if there was any possibility to stop and get something to eat as we did not have the opportunity to have breakfast. We stopped at a Soda and the food was fabulous! Shortly aft er we got back on the road- we came to a dead stop....there was an accident on the one way bridge with a semi and Heineken truck. Our driver was able to find a side road that would get us around the accident and get us to our destination. And so the adventure begins!! Being from Chicago- the roads were very different. We were also on a time crunch as we had to be back in time to get our rental vehicle. Our guide was AWESOME (I wish I could remember his name). He pointed out all different kinds of wildlife and how there had been a storm that destroyed some of the area. He was really friendly, shared his knowledge of the area and helped us at the car rental at the end. We could not have asked for a better experience. Without our driver and guide being the best we would not have had such a great time. Oh- and Rio Celeste------WOW!!! Such an amazing place!!!!!!!... (read more)
Gorgeous!!

Really enjoyed this tour. The walk to the falls & to the "source" was easy in the dry season - no mud. Lots of steps at the falls but plenty of rest areas. Wonderful guide & lovey day. The blue river is an amazing spectacle & definitely worth visiting.

Unfortunately, my booked tour(Rio Celeste Hike) was canceled due to weather as it had rained the night before. I was given the option of a refund or another tour. I accepted another tour which was the Arenal Hanging bridges and La Fortuna waterfall (walk only). It was nice although not worth the original price I had paid for the Celeste Hike of $110. The Arenal Bridges cost $65 and the entrance to the waterfall is about $10.

Guide and driver were very nice.
